Top 5 Must Have Soft Skills Trending in 2019

The workforce is always advancing and the qualifications for jobs are constantly changing; however, who you are remains the same. Regardless of how much experience and education you may have, your soft skills will forever play a huge role in getting a job and keeping it. Your soft skills are what make you unique and show that you are more than just your technical skills. While hard skills are easily taught and learned over time; soft skills are more challenging to develop since they are self-taught through your natural personality. According to a study conducted by LinkedIn, 57% of senior leaders said than soft skills are more important that hard skills in the workplace. Now with that being said, I am sure you are wondering what the most important soft skills employers look for are. According to LinkedIn, the top five soft skills currently trending in 2019 are creativity, persuasion, collaboration, adaptability, and time management.

  1. Creativity. With technology being one of the trendiest occupations in the world, having a creative mind is essential to many businesses. Being creative shows employers you are innovative, find new solutions, and keep things fresh. With this skill, you are believed to be a leader of tomorrow.
  2. Persuasion. Regardless of your position in a company, being able to pitch a new idea or sell a product will always come in handy. With this skill, you are the perfect candidate to be the spokesperson for yourself and your team.
  3. Collaboration. Being a team player is a soft skill that will never fade away. In any line of work, the ability to compromise, work well with others, and put personal feelings aside will always be a requirement. So if you prefer to work solo, learning to collaborate with others will go a long way to secure your future.
  4. Adaptability. Time is always changing and you have to change with it. Being able to adapt to any scenario and being flexible can take you far in your career. The capabilities to learn new software, change procedure, and go with the flow shows your boss that you are reliable and a great candidate for promotions.
  5. Time Management. Every job you will ever work for is guaranteed to have tasks to be completed within a certain timeframe. Prioritizing your workload, juggling multiple projects, and coming into work on time are factors that bosses consider to ensure that they can depend on you.

There are countless soft skills that can be applied in the workforce. Take time to discover your strengths and weaknesses and build upon them. As important as hard skills are to get a job done, your soft skills are equally as important to advance in your career.
