The Board Member Orientation provides an overview of the workforce development system, the mission of CareerSource Palm Beach County, and the role of the Board of Directors. It helps ensure that board members understand how the organization operates and how their leadership helps guide workforce strategies that benefit businesses, job seekers, and the community.

The Board of Directors provides leadership and oversight for workforce development efforts in Palm Beach County. Board members help guide strategy, review performance outcomes, ensure responsible use of public funds, and support initiatives that strengthen the regional workforce and economy.

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is the federal law that funds and governs workforce development programs across the United States. WIOA supports job seekers in accessing employment, education, and training while helping employers connect with skilled workers.

The workforce development system operates through partnerships at the federal, state, and local levels. CareerSource Palm Beach County works with state agencies, education providers, community organizations, and employers to deliver workforce services and strengthen regional economic opportunity.

Board members are expected to follow the Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees and comply with Florida’s Sunshine Law. These laws promote transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making in public service.

The Board of Directors provides oversight of the organization’s budget and financial policies. This includes ensuring workforce development funds are managed responsibly, reviewing financial reports, and supporting accountability for the use of public resources.

Board members review performance reports and key workforce indicators to understand program outcomes and community impact. These measures help guide strategic decisions and ensure services are effectively supporting job seekers and employers.

At the end of the orientation, you are asked to complete an acknowledgement form confirming that you have reviewed the orientation materials. This helps document completion and ensures alignment with governance requirements.
