Frequently Asked Questions

What you need to know about scholarships for training.

You may qualify if you are at least 18 years old, authorized to work in the United States, actively looking for work, and need support to become more competitive. You also must meet at least one of the following:

  • Have a low household income
  • Receive public assistance such as food or cash benefits
  • Have been laid off or displaced from your job

A scholarship can cover tuition, books, and fees for approved programs. You’ll also receive career guidance and ongoing support to help you finish your training and move into employment.

If you lost your job because of a layoff, business closure, or downsizing, you may be eligible. We’ll talk with you about your work history to confirm.

We review your household income, including wages and some benefits. Certain assistance, like food stamps, is not counted against eligibility. We’ll explain exactly what applies in your case.

You’ll need documents that confirm your age, identity, ability to work in the U.S., and household income. We’ll give you a clear checklist so you know exactly what to bring.

If you have not had income in the past six months, we will ask you to provide a short, signed statement explaining how you have been supporting yourself. We will guide you through this step, so it is simple and straightforward.

Before starting, you’ll need to complete an eligibility review and meet with a staff member. Once approved, you can begin in an approved training program.

Enrollment usually takes a few weeks. The timeline depends on how quickly you provide your documents and complete each step. We’ll guide you through the process, so it goes as smoothly as possible.

You’ll need to attend classes regularly, make progress in your program, share your employment status, and stay in touch with a staff member. This helps us support you and keep you on track to finish.

After you complete your program, we will continue to support you with job search assistance, résumé help, and connections to employers. We will also check in with you regularly to see how you are doing and offer extra support if needed. Our goal is to help you succeed long after your training is finished.
