IT/Telecommunications has one of the richest histories in Palm Beach County. With a history of such break-through inventions as the personal computer in the 1980s and the smartphone in the 1990s, Palm Beach County continues to be a magnet for both information technology and telecommunications companies. The Infotech Workforce Development Initiative targets economic development by focusing on increasing the talent supply locally via internships, engaging students with professional groups, connecting IT career academies with companies for on-demand work and using On-the-Job training grants to bring seasoned talent up-to-speed for reemployment. Companies provide insight on industry trends and training needs and work with educational institutions to align training programs with industry demands.
The goal of all stakeholders in this initiative is to attract public/private investment in the local IT/Telecommunications industry through competitive grant-seeking, fundraising, and economic development. CareerSource Palm Beach County supports this sector with talent recruitment and training grants.
